It’s gonna be a great weekend for jazz in Colorado this weekend! So make sure to get outside and enjoy them. Both the Five Points Jazz Festival and the Estes Park Jazz Festival & Art Walk take place. Five Points runs on Saturday from 11-8 and Estes Park going on both Saturday and Sunday from 10-6 both days, with performances starting at noon. Both events are free to the public.
I wanted to wish a Happy Birthday to Denver jazz legend Paul Quinichette. Quinichette whose birthday was yesterday May 17th (in Denver, CO) would’ve celebrated his 97th birthday. Quinichette passed away in May 25th, 1983. He was known in the jazz world as the “Vice Prez” for his similar playing style to that of Lester Young, known as “The Prez”. Quinichette played with other jazz greats as Count Basie, John Coltrane, Louis Jordan, Billie Holiday, Stan Getz and numerous others.
I hate I won’t be able to make it to Estes Park this weekend as work is in the way for Sunday, but I will be out at the Five Points Jazz Festival today enjoying some great local artists and their sounds. Pictures of course will be posted later on tonight. I hope you get out there today and support these festivals, the artists and some of Colorado’s best jazz music!
